There were some interesting glitches in Dragonflight, though at least by the time that we saw HER witness the initial attack, she was either nine or ten at the time of the invasion.
The problem with Sebell though, is that he's implied to be in his late teens/early twenties in Harper Hall, which is explicitly around the time of Dragonquest. As in, we see those scenes throughout both Dragonsong and singer.
Dragonsinger makes it clear that Sebell JUST became a journeyman pretty recently, because the other students saw Menolly as having taken the newly vacated spot as Robinton's apprentice. This being equivalent to Dragonquest - Lessa should be about thirty two.)
I might be misremembering Robinton's book, but I swear I remember it saying Sebell became a journeyman at fifteen BEFORE Fax's invasion of Ruatha. (I think it was even before Fax killed F'lon in that duel.)
That's the retcon I categorically reject. If it turns out I've misremembered Masterharper, then I'll apologize to McCaffrey when I get there. :-)
